Walking Shoe Comparison: Cushion, Support, and Durability

Ten models, 100 miles, one clear lesson—comfort depends on biomechanics, not marketing.

We walked 100 miles in each of ten leading walking shoes, measuring plantar pressure, gait stability, and midsole rebound. The Hoka Clifton 10, On Cloudnova Form, and New Balance 990v7 consistently ranked highest.

Findings: Hoka’s rocker sole minimized fatigue by reducing calf engagement. On’s Speedboard improved stride efficiency for neutral walkers. New Balance offered unmatched support for wider feet.

Durability testing revealed midsole compression after 300 miles on most models, with Hoka lasting the longest. Insoles with higher durometer readings (≥40) maintained structure best.

Verdict: There’s no universal fit—choose based on gait type. Hoka suits distance walkers, On suits commuters, New Balance suits stability seekers.
